Look “Beyond the Horizon” in Marbella

This week I visited another fantastic exhibition in Marbella. The Gallery Isolina Arbulu , one of the treasure in Marbellas gallery world is worth to be discovered. Till end of March Isolina Arbulu is showing a very fine and silente exhibition – a combination of photos and sculptors that are in a great dialog with each other. The photos are taken during her activity as a consultant in the poorest regions of the world by ANGÉLICA ARBULU. Angélica tries to show the beauty in rather isolated places that don’t attract attention on the first glance. A wonderful match with theses photos are the taking sculptures by Málaga artist STELLA KAMAZÓN. Built from recycled materials the figures make a great link to the geographical areas where the photos come from. Stella shows nearly faceless figures which are lost in an other isolated world, the world of technique, phone and internet.

I was already taken by this wonderful combination in the entrance hall – such a great dialog between these two art works!

Here is a small choice of the art works to be seen!

The atmosphere of the gallery is very inviting, situated in a beautiful workplace. It has the notion of a very private house. We were happy to have Isolina as our guide and then the gallery for ourselves after having made a telephone appointment! Its a recommendation to make an appointment to be sure you meet Isolina Arbulu in person and get the interesting information about the exhibition.

I loved the title “Beyond the Horizon” and this description very much, especially as I was also engaged with the horizon when I working on my “Desert Trip Print Series”.

Colors of the desert – Colores del Desertio – Die Farben der Wüste

Impressive Vastness of the Desert

I am very much attracted to deserts. For me driving or walking in these untouched and so surprising landscape is always stunning, sometimes frightening, always touching. My deepest amazement is to be in such an inhospitable and in part intoxicatingly beautiful landscape in which its for any creature an incredible art to survive.

An artist journey

Here I share some impressions from our journey to Death Valley and the surrounding desert AND at the bottom of this page some news of my artist journey!!!!!

The photos cannot reflect the real impression but may be give an idea about what can be experienced in the desert. (All photos made with my iPhone camera) and the paintings hopefully reflect my personal experience of the desert! Enjoy!

Weather – Sandstorm in the desert

When we headed towards Death Valley we had to pass near areas of Los Angles which had terrible fires and a lot of smoke. The view of the landscape was partly blurred and we didn’t know if this was smoke, fog or a sandstorm. It was a sandstorm which offered most amazing and beautiful views and transformed the landscape from second to second.

The “Desert Trip Prints”

Our stay in the desert was deeply impressive and I started to create a series of digital paintings. So I am walking on  a new and quite exciting artist paths.  As soon as I feel my Desert Trip Series is competed I will publish it and offer prints. I have never before offered prints, so finding the right format and paper and especially an experienced Fine Art Printer was a journey in itself. But now I am happy with the one I finally found – the first prints look beautiful!!! I assume I will be able to release this edition, which will be a limited edition about mid of January.

Did you ever dream about having your own Gallery?

Gallery at Home in Winter Park

I have been venturing the idea to make our home a place to feature exhibitions time by time, to make it an event  gallery. That would be very convenient for me as an artist, but it was more a thought than a plan. So when I heard about Gallery “Art at Home” I was very keen to see it and meet the people who have the courage and spirit to do it in real!

Veronique Benouaich has maintained  and nourished her dream of a gallery of her own. She always enjoyed art very much. When moving from Paris to the South of France she became very good friends with many artists. When moving from France to Winter Park in Florida she finally  fulfilled the dream of establishing  a gallery  in the  new house near Orlando.

Veronique and her husband

She brought over many of the delicate art works from her artists friends in France and she and her husband transformed their new house into a space that served as a gallery and as a home. Regularly she presents new artists besides her rather steady exhibition. A Vernissage and the Finissage are the two official days for the gallery show, but visits of this beautiful white home and gallery are welcome in between by appointment.

Featuring a Korean Artist and several French artists in Winter Park

We had the pleasure to see some very delicate and explorative art by some of Veroniques artist friends and the featured Korean artist Hye Shin, who works with textil and paper elements.

A  very attractive privat art exhibition

I enjoyed very much the visit and Veroniques explanation of the outstanding art works and the ideas behind them and unusual materials that were used. It’s a very special chance to look at art in a  private atmosphere.

I remembered that two of my first exhibitions took place in the stunning house of my friends who were so friendly to offer there white walls to my paintings and we had a great time inviting their friends and mine.

Do you have experience with privat exhibition as an artists or visitor? What do you think about it?

If you happen to be in the Orlando region and you want to enjoy the exquisite visit to “Art in a Home” you  will find all information at Daver Art Gallery  !

Some colors from Morocco – algunos colores de Marruecos – Farben von Marokko

A short trip to Morocco

We went on a six days trip to Morocco, combining the Jazz Festival in Tangier with a short round trip Tangier – Chechowen – Volubilis – Fes- Tangier. Not much to take photos, but a lot to see in a short time. Here I share some of my photo harvest – rather centered on things I love – color, abstract impressions, patterns and animals – on top of this list cats. There are so many of them in the Medinas! Wonderful! And carpets, and mosaics and ……Click on the photos to enlarge!

I was fascinated by the color contrast and nearly geographic patterns of the landscape, created by the yellow stubble and the very dark earth. First we thought it was burned stubbles of grain but it was the very dark soil.

The patterns of Morocco

Everywhere you detect the richness of patterns….this is just a mini insight of what we saw:

Animals in the Medina

The animals of course always captured my attention, and as cat lover especially the many cats to be seen in so picturesque places.

The Moroccan crafts

A specific skill of Morocco are the crafts – incredible fine things done by hand.

Beauty of every days life in Moroccan towns

These things fascinated me, such a decoration of every day life!!!

And this COLORS – a walk through Chefchouwen and other cities.

Guess, how I started my new painting?

Memories of Morocco and the blue town

and this one I call finished:

Moroccan colors and live

I will keep you posted where this painting is going.

A look behind the curtain:
The transformation of an adventure to an artwork!

The journey to Greenland was very impressive. So I was intrigued to dip a bit deeper into my memories and see it all with the painters eyes. Here are the first results, more hopefully to follow! I had a lot of fun to convert my memories and photos into paintings. It was quite a new experience for me, as I usually don’t work with photos.. Here you can see, how I worked .

Back to the artist journey……

This painting is a emotional memory, I started with.

Traveling to the ice in Greenland – photos of an exceptional adventure

As a traveller and artist I have had for long the dream to go to Greenland and see the ice. The shapes and the colors of the ice have always fascinated me and I was eager to see it in reality. And so we went on that journey, 10 days, very comfortably traveling with an explorer 🚢 ship into the arctic circle on the west coast of Greenland, which is the more inhabited coast.

This is where we were: we sailed mostly in the Arctic Circle. On our last day we made an excursion to see the inland ice, the ice shield that covers the whole island and is coming down from this glaciers through the fjords. This year it was melting exceptionally.

On our journey we encountered a completely different, somehow unbelievable world! We anchored near small settlements, undertook some exciting excursions on foot and on small boats (canoe, tender boats and fishering boats) and never knew quite well where we would go next, as the ice was so extremely rich this year. Some of our destinations were not accessible because of the extremely dense ice. Floating icebergs would block our way to the destination. We were very touched by the majestic icebergs floating silently on the sea. The journey also was adventures in the respect of entering a completely different climate zone and experiencing such a different way of life, all so far from our imagination!

The ICE! We were so impressed by the ice, we took endless photos. Each iceberg was so special and such a miracle, it left us breathless and full of awe. Imagine some of these icebergs are as big as a street block!

And if you would like to have the feeling of traveling between the icebergs, see this video!!! Here the fishing boat had to turn around , we were locked in.

And now the Artist…..

I started painting …..Dreaming about Greenland was a painting I did far before our journey, not knowing what to expect, but I think somehow it touched the spirit of what we then experienced. The other two paintings are the start of a series I want to make inspired by this  journey! I hope I can live up to it – a big challenge for me to work with inner and outer pictures!
